Borg Lucas Valley named for George Lucas

Comment: i live in marin county, california, and there is an area (and
freeway exit) called Lucas Valley. george lucas is a well known resident
of marin, and i'm fairly certain that the big battle scene in "episode 1:
attack of the clones" was filmed there (the background anyway, because all
the actors in that scene are cgi).

so the rumor is that lucas valley was named after (and/or is owned by)
george lucas.

i can personally confirm that it was named lucas valley before the release
of episode one, and probably before he even shot that scene there (i first
moved to marin in 1997). of course george lucas has been a resident for a
very long time, and has been famous for at least 30 years now... but i
would imagine that it would have been named before that, since areas,
streets, etc. that are named for people, aren't usually named for a long
time after that person's significance in time - which makes me think
perhaps it's just a coincidence.

sound intriguing? i'd love to know if this is true or false!

Yep. From the Marin Independent Journal:

And for those of you who are wondering if Lucas Valley was named for George Lucas and his Skywalker Ranch, the answer is no. That honor goes to John Lucas who owned much of the ridge and valley back in the 1860s.
