Comment: Is it true that two buildings in the Dallas Texas skyline, both
designed by architect Keating -- the Texas Commerce Building and the Trammell Crow Center -- represent man's and a woman's sexual parts? (Texas Commerce building, aka "Chase Tower" is the woman's part; Trammell Crow is a phallus). I've heard this rumor for years, but cannot find anything written down about it. |

Wel, if you're looking for that kind of thing, then I guess most high rises would look awfully phallic. Here is the Trammell Crow Tower and here is the Chase Tower. Frankly, I think the Chase Tower looks more phallic than the Trammell Crow building because I think the round top looks more like the head of an actual penis and it has a urethral opening. But, I guess everyone's MMV. On the other hand, I've seen these buildings so many times and never spontaneously thought anything sexual about either one, but then I'm not the type to go looking for that sort of thing to begin with.
ETA: I didn't find any evidence in my admittedly quick and dirty google search that suggested they were designed to purposely look like male and female genitalia. Also, I've *never* heard the rumor in the OP and I grew up just a couple hours south of Dallas. Last edited by Elsie; 19 December 2007 at 03:55 AM. |

Yeah, I could see it looking like a butt, too. But if you're specifically talking genitalia, as was the OP, then I think of the two, it looks much more penile than the other one, and it definitely looks more penile than vaginal. In fact, it is one of the most penile looking buildings I've ever seen (and I'm just not the sort to see that type of thing).

I can't find anything about it now, but I remember reading an article about the Seattle Municipal Tower. The architect specified (apparently without checking) an exterior marble facing that was supposedly red. When it arrived, it was actually a pinkish-brown color.
Phallika symbol?

Ever been to Tallahassee, FL? We take our position as the state capital of "America's wang" quite seriously.

globally my vote would go for the Torre Agbar of the French architect Jean Nouvel in Barcelona.

My DC friends tell me the ultimate one of these is the Washington Monument, a monument to the father of our country.
The added joke is that they are making a 169.29 m hole right next to it as the Martha Washington Monument......
