Suspect of what? What is a manly mannerism? And since when does having a picture taken with a man indicate anything regarding sexuality?

I'm not sure what's wrong here.

I could be wrong of course, but I believe that msthng was being humorous. (note use of the trout.) Way to welcome the newbie, folks.

The whole media thing on this really pi**es me off. They announce engagements of celebrities all the time but it's usually because everyone wants to know how big the diamond ring is and how much the wedding will cost. With Queen Latifa everyone wants to know if she is "finally coming out of the closet" and it makes me so mad. Why oh why do they feel the need to focus on sexuality instead of how happy a couple is?

Which is why I asked questions instead of making accusations.

The trout has been misused to the point where I am not sure what it stands for.

Well, of course not. She's not a photographer.

I agree, although it took a while to penetrate into my poor, sad, sick brain.

You, too? I'm getting over a Death Cold right now. It's pretty miserable. My whole head is clogged up, but at least I'm feeling better than I was last week when I had a sore throat and no energy at all.

Hijack:

I've been sick since Christmas! I had a nasty bout of the flu, which got better, but, now, I'm getting worse. Throat, nose, etc., plus slight fever, swollen glands, etc.

Then, last night, as I'm trying to sleep, I got the weirdest thing. Lying down, if I turn over, I'd get this horrid wave of dizyness. It would abate when I was still, but it was still there. And today, I'm just wiped.

I gave up. I have an appointment with the PA today to see if they can dose me with something to make this go away.

I'm miserable. I'm tired all the time, my nose is in extreme pain, when I blow my nose, it's all bloody (even sometimes when I cough....ugh), and I have NO libido.

Wahhhhh!

Anyway. Hijack over. I just needed to whine a bit.

Whine......

AnglRdr asked some questions to establish tone (as she points out, the trout has a number of functions), and I pointed out that bigotry is wrong. There are other threads for rolling out the welcome wagon, you know, which I'm all for, but I don't see the point in assuming newbies have overly tender fragile sensibilities.

At first I thought msthng007's post was serious too, so I can understand your questions and Chloe's bigotry comment. Now that AliBaba suggested it, it does seem to me like msthng's post was joking/sarcastic humor.

IMO, AnglRdr's questions had an air of an accusatory tone in them - e.g., the use of the phrase "since when" is typically used in a snarky tone and to make a point, not to get a real answer.

It's so hard to interpret "tone" on a message board, and with nonverbal cues comprising the majority of communication, it's no wonder that we frequently misinterpret something.

And while I don't think any poster, new or old, should get a free pass to say something inappropriate, welcoming and asking something gently of a newbie is not the same as assuming he or she has an overly fragile psyche.

In the past when a newbie has posted something inappropriate (IMO), I either post a gentle correction or send hir an IM.

You are correct, Chloe. Bad phrasing on my part. What I should have said was "way to make the newbie feel welcome". And I didn't mean to indicate that I assumed msthng has overly tender sensibilities. I'm sure he or she can stand up for themselves. But as a newcomer with one whole post, they might not yet feel comfortable doing so.

You are right, AliBaba; while I don't like the idea we sometimes see that a larger number of posts should correlate to a greater benefit of the doubt, perhaps the reverse idea has more going for it. I apologise if I made a new poster feel uncomfortable or unwelcome (or an old one, come to that).

She is apparantly a very private person who has actually been able to keep her private life out of her public one. I recently read an interview of hers and when asked by the gossip rag if she was seeing anyone because she seemed so happy, her response almost made me stand up and cheer. IIRC, (paraphrased) she basically told the interviewer that her happiness does not rely solely on her being in a relationship. That was the end of the "tell me everything in your life that I have no business knowing" questions.

I knew I liked her for a reason!

PS - she did admit in that article to having more than one suitor ask her to marry them. She turned them down as she did not feel that she was ready for marriage at those points in her life. She would also like to have kids and her mama is always asking her for them! Neither of these tidbits though answer the question of is she or isn't she - and honestly, imho, it isn't anyone's business but hers.
