Comment: I have searched your site and didn't see anything on this. Please
let us know if this is true or not:

November 30, 2007. It's happened. MediaTakeOut.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned
that Queen Latifah and her longtime girlfriend Jeanette are OFFICIALLY
ENGAGED!!! The two women have been in a relationship for more than 4
years - and they've finally decided to make it official.

She's an actress and she used to be (or may still be) a singer.

I have the same sentiments at Dropbear. This falls into the category of "and who cares?"

Seriously? That surprises me a bit, but here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Latifah

By the way, the idea that she is gay comes from her portrayal in a movie (Set it Off). There is no evidence (except of the article) that she is actually gay.

Why should it surprise you that a Swede hasn't heard of an obscure American entertainer? I only recall her from the 80s early 90s hip hop scene, were I not a hip hop fan I can guarantee you i'd never have heard of her either...

I never really thought about it, but I guess I always sort of assumed she was gay. I can't say why I thought that, though. Of course, I can't really say why I assume some people are straight.

The alleged girlfriend/fiancee is quite stunning (as is the Queen).

But she isn't particularly obscure.

I never heard anything about her sexuality one way or the other either, so I guess this comes as a surprise to me too, mainly that she's involved with anybody at all. You always figure rumors (especially when they're Teh Gay) will be all over the place.

Oh well, I still think she was cuter than hell in "Last Holiday".

I had completely forgotten that she was in "Chicago", although truthfully, I never saw it to begin with. I would guess that is the most recognizable "name" film that she's been in, although I think the Barbershop and Beauty Shop films probably had better critical acclaim.

I, personally, *loved* the show "Living Single" and still watch it whenever I catch a rerun. I also think she is just gorgeous. And I, too, am a little surprised about the gay thing. I just never thought about it one way or the other, plus I rarely listen to that kind of entertainment news/gossip (although apparently this hasn't been reported on/gossiped about much).

A quick poll of my colleagues reveals one person out of 14 has heard of her. I didn't know she acted, in fact i'd not heard of her in many years. The only film on her list that i''ve seen is 'The Bone Collector', which I had to rack my brains to recall her character. I think it's fair to say that the majority of non-old skool hip hop fans in Europe aren't gonna be too familiar with her milieu...

That may well be, but she has done a whole host of movies, some of which I would imagine were released in Europe.

You don't have to be interested in hip hop to know anything about her however. Heck, I never knew she was involved in hip-hop until real recently. I knew about her because she starred in a lot of movies. Weather or not you know who a particular person is or is not varies greatly from person to person. It really doesn't say much when you point out that only 1 in 14 people you talked to has heard of her.

and for the record, I have never heard of any gay rumors either.

Did she play the character in The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire who made Will Smith's character realise that beauty wasn't confined to slim people?

Edit: read the comments on that article. My head hurts now.

So what? I'd be willing to bet that out of 250 people here not 'one' could tell me the name of a movie she's been in - by any standards that means obscure. She might be a household name over there but this attitude of being surprised that other people might not be familiar is a little baffling, if utterly unsurprising.

So why are you 'surprised' that somebody hasn't heard of her? This was the only point I was trying to highlight. Your initial assumption was that knowledge of certain actors does 'not' vary from person to person. You might not have to be interested in hip hop to know her, but if you're not, you certainly have to have watched some very select sort of films, right?
