Togo's Eateries' roots are in San Jose, to an old house that became a sandwich shop on East William street. (That location closed in 1999.) A perhaps apocryphal tale has it that it was created by two men named Tom and Gordon (hence the To and the Go in the brand's sometimes mispronounced name), but whatever the story, the shop was later bought by Mike Cobler in 1971.
