Icon605 Pharmacies reimbursed for Oxycontin robberies

Comment: Hi
I was talking to a pharmacist friend of mine.
He works for a major chain. We were talking about the
news and I mentioned those Oxyconting robberies.
They are apparently fairly freqent.
I asked him why do pharmacies still keep it.
He replied that there were two reasons.
One...people do need it.
Two...the people who make the drug reimburse the
companies pill for pill for whatever is stolen.
Is that true?

Hi.
Your question sounds very much like
a spoken-word piece. I picture
a jazz combo behind you
as you recite.
I snap my fingers to indicate approval.
Please do not blow your smoke
in my direction.

Why would the pharmaceutical companies be the ones to reimburse the stores? Don't most businesses have theft insurance for this kind of thing?

It could be similar to auto insurance, where your premiums go up when you have made a claim. It might be less hassle/paperwork and no premium increase if the drug maker reimbursed you instead of your insurance. It would be in the drug maker's interest to get you to carry it, so it's available to patients willing to pay (or with medical coverage to pay) the 300-800 cost per month.
