Canada Post honoring old stamps

Comment: I received the following email from a co-worker. I think it's a
hoax. Can you confirm please??? Thanks.

A message from my good friend who's son works for Canada Post.

As some of you all know, postage went up to .52 as of January 15, 2007 -
but did you know that if you have any .51 cent stamps left - you do not
have to add a .01 stamp to it...........

Canada Post wants you use them all up, and they will honor the .51 until
end of December 2007.

(this applies to regular stamps only - not the metered mail that goes
through the postage machines)

I found this out from the post office at Shopper's when I went to buy .01
stamps - and it was confirmed by my very own Canada Post employee!!

I suspect they were told that 51-cent stamps did not suddenly become invalidated on Jan. 1, 2007.

Or, someone's making things up.

It's true that the 51 cent stamp will continue to be honoured. It's because Canada post is phasing out the one cent stamp and is changing to permanent postage. Story here: Link

It's up to 52 now?! I remember the good ol' days (when I was just a wee lad) when postage was 45 cents.

*cue someone reminding me of when postage was a nickel...*

That's good to know!
I bought a whole bunch of stamps before Christmas because this was going to be the year that I would send everyone a lovely Holiday card, maybe even with the cheesy update letter to boot.

Of course it didn't happen, I keep expecting those grown up things to kick in as I grow up, but it's yet to happen.

Didn't it just go up to .51 cents like 2 weeks ago?

Your own Canada Post employee gave you the answer? You're lucky. The best my Canada Post employee at the local Shoppers could do was a crude, marker-and-cardboard sign.

Now that's service
