Comment: Have you ever heard that for $40,000 dollars a night you can stay
in a room at the castle in Magic Kingdom? Just wondering if there's any truth to that at all. |

Recently a suite was constructed inside the castle. It's being given away to families for nightly stays as part of the Year of a Million Dreams. Before this, I think th castle actually held the communications center for the park, but no sleeping quarters. I don't think anything certain has come out yet about whether the suite will be available for rental after the promotion is over. The following picture is from the link and is an artist's rendering of the interior of the suite.

I wanna win, I wanna win, I wanna win! How freaking cool would that be?
However, I don't think I would be able to figure out the shower. Way more knobs than I'm used too. But I want! (Ok, I have just been turned into a raving 4 year old.) |

The location that the suite that was built in was originally intended to be an apartment for Walt and his family. Unfortunately, because Walt died before WDW opened, it was never finished. Disney purists believe that the suite should never have been made.
Zabia, one of the knobs is for hot water, one for cold, and one to turn on the shower (my shower in my apartment has three knobs for that). Personally, all the strings involved with staying there for one night isn't worth it to me. And the suite looks a bit too...much for me. Unfortunately, my parents, brother, roommate, nor I would be able to win. Damn me for working for Disney!

It looked like to me that there was a pipe for a knob that was hidden behind the curtain. If not I would find it weird that the hot and cold knobs were on top of each other than next to each other, know what I mean? Honestly, it wouldn't matter, my butt wouldn't be getting out of the hot tub after a day of walking around. I know what you mean about it being a bit much, I wouldn't want to live in it but it is perfect for a princess' room. (Heh, much better than if they had recreated her room from the movie. I wouldn't mind the barren attic along as I got talking mice!) |

Didn't W.Disney die before construction even started? I thought he died sometime in the 60s and the park didn't open until the 70s.

Walt died just under a year before construction began (I just did the research myself to be sure). However, the plans for the castle included that apartment, it was just never finished.

Mickey~ reading through the posts in that thread, someone mentioned CM's have their own version of the contest, called (IIRC) Backstage Magic. Wouldn't you be eligible through that?

I'm not certain. I haven't heard anything about it. I mean, I have, I just don't know what the details are. But we can't win on just the "Wish Makers come up and say 'hey, want to stay in the castle' to my family" kind of thing.

Hmmphphph! Those beds look like they're only queen size. You're gonna stay in a castle, you at least want king size beds.
And is there a balcony, or at least windows? Gotta be able to wave to all the little people below. |

Well, if you would like to read a report written by someone who stayed in the castle with her family just a few days ago, you can read it here:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1353437 I think I like this report best because it is written by the person who won it and not a media release. They were the first family who won this and were just vacationing like many other people. They were approached while waiting in line at a ride by the Dream Team. No contest to enter---just a complete surprise. Last edited by B Hamilton; 13 February 2007 at 06:05 PM. |
