“When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured that I don’t care,” reads one email presently circulating among America’s conservatives.
Another reports that Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack H. Obama “takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim.” Among the politically semi-aware, screeds like these are the new chain mail. Their viral propagation makes them an incredibly powerful means of preaching to the choir. When it comes to winning converts, however, the missives fall short of being compelling, particularly when they wind up in the inboxes of college students who are active members of left-leaning campus organizations. Alas, that doesn’t keep these kids’ parents from sending them unwelcome bits of political wisdom. Over and over again. http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=516660 |

I will give props to my Mum on this one. She hates Glurge and "Inboxer Rebellion" emails as much as I do, so I never get any passed on.

UGH. My mom doesn't send me too much stuff anymore. Once, she sent me the email about protesting to the USPS for issuing an Eid stamp. It was such a bunch of drivel that I hit "reply all" and spent much of the morning composing a reply. The reply ended up being published on the front page of our Sunday paper's Opinion section.

I did much the same thing when I was sent that, only it wasn't published. (props to you for that, btw) My grandma sent it to me and I spent quite a while penning a letter, basically asking her not to send me written bigotry. My mom is really great at sending the overly "Christian"/"American" stuff. >_< (<- Quotations because I find these e-mails neither Christian or American in nature.) |
