Comment: I've got a doozy for you: my mom has been claiming that pink lightbulbs
are linked with cancer. I scoffed, mentioned SCIENCE!, pointed out that
breast cancer support groups adopted the colour pink and haven't spoken
out about the Pink Lightbulb Health Menace, etc., but she is not swayed.
we're all going to sprout enormous tumours at any moment.

I've tried to track this source of this rumour down on my own, because
logic isn't getting through to her and she panics when I buy the nice pink
bulbs that are so flattering to a lady's skintone (as opposed to harsher
full-spectrums). No joy, so far; probably because this is one urban
legend that most people are not credulous enough to pass on.

FWIW, we both are highly educated folk; she's got a Ph.D. herself, for
heaven's sake!

Comment: For many years I have been told that by receiving hickeys can
increase the chances of having skin cancer drastically. Most of the
people that I had heard this from were parents and we all know that
parents will say things just to keep their children from doing things that
the parents do not want them doing. I don't know if this rumor has ever
been truncated or not and if it has could you either tell me the results
or point me in the direction that I may find them.

Comment: I received an e-mail suggesting that Listerine could help keep
mosquitos away...another respondent said not to use it because Listerine
causes cancer. The information I have found links Listerine to cancer
only through rinsing (making one more likely to absorb cancer causing
agents through the mouth) and is inconclusive on the whole. Would it be
safe to use the "Listerine bug repellent," if in fact, it works?

Comment: I read a message board post of a woman who went to a Shaklee
products in-home party and was told this-
SAHM's (stay at home moms) have an increased cancer risk because of all
the toxic cleaning supplies they are exposed to. Therefore, you should use
Shaklee non-toxic cleaning supplies. I Googled it and found this-
http://cleveland.momslikeme.com/memb...3260&m=4851281
Sounds like hooey.

^ Beware the person who tries to sell you something.

Googling "Stay-at-home moms"+cancer reveals that SAHM's might actually have lower incidences of certain cancers due to exercise, but SAHM's don't necessarily have a monopoly on that. A non-biased source

I'm all for using more non-toxic products in the house, but why get them from a gods-forsaken MLM when you can get Clorox GreenWorks or Method products in you local grocery store for so much cheaper?

Comment: There is an email circulating that mamogram does more harm than
good. It can even cause breast cancer instead of detect breast cancer.
Could you pls verify whether there is any truth in it.

I could see where maybe some of the chemicals they use on the fields to keep them in shape & green could cause cancer, but actual grass causing cancer doesn't seem likely.

Or else most of suburbia would have it.

Mouse

Comment: I received an email today, claiming that Princeton University
conducted a lab study where mice were fed from food kept in two separate
refrigerators: one, with magnets on the ice box door, and the other
without.

Food from the icebox with magnets produced an 87% incidence of cancer, as
opposed to the mice that were fed from the icebox that did not have any
magnets at all.

Is this true? Our refrigerator is practically covered with magnets of all
shapes and colors.

Comment: I have heard for years now that when a person is operated on to
remove cancer that the cancer spreads like wild fire once oxygen hits it.
Is this a true statement? Are there any articles that prove or disprove
this statement?
