Comment: For at least 35 years a rumor has floated around the Mid west
relating to the football rivalry between Ohio State University and the U. of Michigan. Reportedly one of the coaches was driving back from an appointment thru the opponent's state. Rather than pay taxes on any fuel purchased in "enemy territory" either OSU's Woody Hayes or U of M's Bo Schlemblecler refused to stop. With the fuel gauge on 'E' the story could only end with the coach running out of gas a few miles short of his stubborn goal. Which coach got stranded trying to get back across their home stateline? All that really matters now, of course, is which set of fans gets to poke fun at the other team assuming there is any truth to either version. Whadda you say happened? |

FWIW (which is really nothing)...I grew up hearing this story about Woody Hayes, but never that the bus ran out of gas.

I didn't think it was Bo. Bo would've just figured, oh well, OH needed all the help they could get.
