Icon402 Hugo Chavez has AK-47s and long-range missiles!

Hugo Chavez is NOW getting a Russian Weapons Factory built by Putin.

The RUSSIANS are building an AK-47 Kalashnikov Assault Rifle factory in Venezuela to give armament support to Communist Rebel groups throughout the Americas.

Chavez NOW has IRANIANS operating his oil refineries in Venezuela for him. It is likely only a matter of time, if not already, before Chavez has Iranian built LONG RANGE missiles, with a variety of warhead types aimed at: Guess Who?

The only logical thing to do at this point is invade Venezuela. The oppressed Venezuelans will no doubt welcome our troops with open arms. We can then declare the country a democracy and tell the Venezuelans who they should vote for president. What could possibly go wrong?

Frankly, I'm more worried about Bush having long range missiles. It doesn't matter how much Chavez builds, it will not be enough for him to strike without getting more back.

Isn't that where the launch site for the ESA Ariane Rocket is though? A couple of tweaks and modifications and I'm sure they could use it to deliver a deadly payload straight to the heart of Caracas.

Seeing as Russia is the second largest arms exporter in the world ( after the US ), and the AK-47 one of the most widely manufactured weapons in the world, it's hardly surprising that Venezuela has some. I bet about half the armies in the world have some as well. Also, it's a fairly hefty jump from "Iranian engineers running oil refineries" to "Iran supplying long range missiles, and various warhead types".

Not really. Oil refineries have lots of tubes. What shape are missles?

"It's all just a bunch of tubes...."

Russia hasn't produced any AK-47s in decades....they switched to the AK-74 a long time ago.

I would be willing to bet that there is someone of Iranian origin in this country working at an oil refinery.

for what it's worth, from Pravda:
Russian arms help Chavez launch guerrilla warfare against USA

Quote:
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has urged soldiers to prepare for a guerrilla-style war against the United States.
He said the US government is using psychological and economic warfare as part of an unconventional campaign aimed at derailing his government.
[...]
same story is at free republic, which seems appropriate given the tone of the OP.

and also:

Iran To Build Oil Refinery In Venezuela

Quote:
Iran and Venezuela, both at political loggerheads with the Bush administration, are deepening their economic ties. Iran will build an oil refinery in Faga, in Venezuela's oil-rich Orinoco province. IRNA news agency reported on June 1 that the refinery will refine heavy oil into gasoline and other oil derivatives.
I'm not sure where the missiles come into it tho.

Yep. I think few nations have more experienced engineers in oil refining, so why not?

Yep, but they are still produced all over the world.

Well, asphalt is a byproduct of oil refining, and together with liquid oxygen or some other good oxidant, it makes pretty powerful rocket fuel...

Edit: Fixed bad quote.

Yes, the Russian military has switched to the AK-74, but Russia still makes AK-47s, more specifically, the AKM variant.

ETA: Spanked by Troberg... but I said they're still produced in Russia.

Firstly, doesn't everyone have AK-47's? I belive it's a very popular weapon, though I do think I've heard the current US rifle is superior.

As to the Russians building a factory there, do they not already have factories of various and asundry sourts in Venezuala? Russian and Iranian investment in Venezuala's infrastructure is troublesome for American Companies who would also like a pice of the pie, but one can hardly blame Chavez for seeking out such investors, given the current relationship between our countries.

We coudl attempt to use honey as opposed to vinigar to catch flies, if we were so inclined, but of course, then the question would be what do we do with all those flies?

The Ariane? It probably does that anyway even when aimed at the moon.
