Icon05 Cabbits

Comment: I know there's no such thing as a real cat/rabbit hybrid known as a cabbit or carabit. But, I'm talking with my mom and she tells me her boss knows someone who owns one, and she wouldn't listen to my mom when she told her, it wasn't possible, because she saw it with her own eyes. The reining theory so far is, someone got duped into buying some odd looking animal under the pretense it was a cabbit. The discrption my mom was given was, a cat's head, with rabbit ears, and the hind legs/tail of a rabbit. Which has lead to internet searches galore trying to figure out WHAT exactly this thing really is. We haven't found a picture of a manx cat that looked rabbitty, enough. And our prevailing theory is a Jerboa. Any other ideas of an animal that could be passed off as a cabbit?

My nieces have a cat that they swear is a cabbit. The oldest graduated from college with honors, so you would think she would know better.

Theirs is a small cat with very short legs. It seems to hop rather than run.

Manx often have very rabbit-like characteristics, particularly the ones that have a tuft of fur in place of the missing vertebrae. They also often have back and hip issues that give them a gait that is sort of a hop.

It was probably a manx. This page has a detailed explanation.

I didn't even think of a chilla, I used to own one, and my description for those who didn't know what i was talking about was "well, they look like someone crossed a giant mouse, a rabbit and a squirrel." which may possibly be why I didn't think of it...

And the funny looking cat theory keeps coming up (manx and munchkins) but some part of me wants to believe that people aren't THAT stupid.

Believe me, people really, really are that stupid. Just because lions and tigers form hybrids they insist cats and rabbits can too. You wouldn't believe the number of emails I get from people whose teacher/brother-who-did-a-genetics-course etc claiming the darn things really exist.

I was just hoping that people were smart enough to be able to identify a cat when they saw one...even if it were hoppy. There goes what little faith I had in humanity...

mmmmm, I dunno. There's no little gemstone in the middle of the forehead, no shot of a cute cottonball tail. And obviously no carrots!

Does the supposed cabbit at least transform to that of a 2 year old human and follow you around saying "cawwot, cawwot!"

Well, when the weather gets cooler they do tend to fly around the house quite a bit.
