Icon605 Social Security checks

Comment: I heard that the average number of Social Security checks
collected by retireies is only 15. This seems way too low to me. If the
average person retired and started collecting Social Security at age 65
then that would mean they would be dead at just past 66. Could this be
true?

The Social Security Actuarial tables show that the average life span at the age of 65 is a liitle over 16 years. Maybe it's not that they receive on average 15 checks, but 15 years of checks.
