Dunno about fruitcake, but my rat Anja absolutely loved normal cake...I nearly lost some fingers finding that out

Rats (and mice) eat fruit cake. I've baited traps with it. Rats tend to stay away from unfamiliar foods to begin with.

... and Christmas fruitcakes have already been fed to rats for numerous generations; so they are good to go with it.
