Navy Pulls YouTube Video Made by Airman

The Navy has removed a video from YouTube shot aboard the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan because it shows sailors using safety equipment inappropriately.

A couple of comments.

First, while I didn't see the video, is it just me or does anyone else think that something similar might have been a decent recruiting tool? Minus the classified info and the "slacking on the job" shots, of course.

Secondly, while the story seems legitimate, I thought "airman" was an Air Force pay grade, not a Navy one. And Lt. Cmdr. Charlie Brown is the Navy spokesman? Some public affairs officer was either sleeping on the job or has a sense of humor...

Airman is a Naval rank. As is Seaman, Fireman, Hospitalman, and Constructionman.

Equivalent ranks with different titles depending on MOS (or whichever term the Navy uses), or is every new inductee a Seaman until s/he learns a specialty?

MOS=rating, and every recruit is a Seaman Recruit until they successfully complete A-school (or are advanced, in which case, they will be a Seaman Apprentice, then Seaman).

Very cool video. I think they should spread it around as much as possible. The only thing they might have to worry about would be copyrights on the song.
