Aside from the 278 reasons why e-petitions don't work, there's the fact that a cup of coffee won't stop the soldiers from getting ventilated by enemy fire. Although it's kind of comforting to see that America doesn't have the monopoly on slacktivism.

Lack of Timmy's in Kandahar isn't a big issue. Canadian taxpayers are already footing most of the bill, says this report. Despite the millions in startup costs, coffee costs $1.50 a cup.

I'm not sure what the point of this petition is.

Military Tim's

From someone who has been a recipient of Tim Horton's benevolence in the past, I don't think they need to do anymore.

Every six months, Timmie's donates a can of coffee per soldier deployed, be itin Afghanistan, Israel, the Balkans, Africa etc. At Christmas time, they have been known to send travel mugs (great for travelling in an armoured vehicle with some homebrewed Tim's coffee), thermoses, coffee makers and other Tim's paraphernalia. When I was in Kabul, they even gave us temporary approval to use some of their coffee in our canteen. Even now, in Canada, the local Tim's will have Military appreiciation days.

So, despite the efforts of this "petition", I feel that Tim Horton's has already demonstrated their support for the military deployed.

Thanks for posting that UEL. This is something that has puzzled me for awhile. Why do some people seem to glory in singling out Tim's as if they've discovered this terrible soldier hating organization that needs to be kicked up the backside in order to "support our troops"? It's bizarre.

Probably for the same reason that someone lied about Shakira.

They have axe to grind for unrelated reasons, so they think of something that will get everyone in a huff.

What's maddening though is it sounds like people in the military or closely associated with the military ought to know better - yet, at least here in the Ottawa area they seem to be the ones jumping to the worst conclusions. We had a situation a few months ago where military family members wanted a boycott of Tims because Tims wouldn't allow their workers to wear red shirts on Fridays. Forget every single other thing Tims has done and continues to do "for the troops" they wouldn't bend their uniform rules. Sheesh the women who were interviewed about this were almost shaking with rage and seemed on the verge of tears. How dare Tims not bend to their will?

Well, either those people are truly pathetic, or they were just trying to kick the coffee habit.

And you know what a lack of caffeine does to people.

While it is rather generous of the author of the quote in the OP to want to buy a "soldier" a Canadian Maple and Iced Cap, but I'm pretty sure all those in the Canadian military are actual soldiers, sailors and air forcers... erm... air forcosities? People with planes.

Airmen? That's what they used to be called in the USAF. Women, too.

I've got no problem footing part of the bill for Kandahar's Timmy's. I'm not fighting in Afghanistan, and I don't see that changing. So it's a little bit of a contribution for taxpayers to foot the bill for the Tim Horton's.

Funny how the petition chain originator seems to have forgotten all the help Tim Horton's has done for kids suffering from cancer.

Must've given 'em business cards.

Why would we want to punish soldiers by making them eat Tim Horton's? Isn't being in Iraq bad enough?

Two quick things: Canadian soldiers aren't in Iraq, and Tim Horton's is a great place to get food.

Yes, I suppose. If your only other options are combat rations.

Actually their chocolate Danishes are absolutely delicious and so is their mocha. I also really like their lemon squares. Their potato bacon soup is also great but that's about the only meal type food they have that I really like.

Not all Tim Hortons carry the same things, though, the one nearest to my house no longer has the chocolate Danishes, much to my huge chagrin!

(long time lurker, newby poster)

Hi all,
As a Canadian, and a Tim Hortons aficionado I think this is a good time for my first post (I've been meaning to join you all for a while).

I'm not a lover of fast food, but their sandwiches are not bad at all, while the meat is processed, it is still edible. Their soups are typical fast food style soups, laden with sodium but decent enough. Their coffee is divine, I don't know if it's just because of years of almost daily "double doubles", but one sip and I relax, hmm, it's almost like an addiction I guess. Their ice capps are amazing, but also amazingly full of fat, gives new meaning to the phrase "put a cap in your ass" (I think that is hilarious, Mr.Amused thinks not so much).
Their danishes are excellent, I recently saw in a local one mini danishes, even better, like "tim bit" danishes. Anyway, their beverages and desserts are pretty excellent, food not bad, slightly above typical fast food fair I'd say.

As a company, they seem better then most, lots of benefits for employees, I think they even have a scholarship fund for them, and the camps for kids.
I just wish they'd spend more on training, I swear they seem to screw up my order way more then necessary
