if you look at a tennants lager pint glass you will see a picture of a crown with the date/number 2043 underneath it. what is this numbers significance

It's the optimum time to drink a pint of Tennants 8.43 the perfect supping time.

The crown indicates that the glass (or other measuring device) has been inspected by the DTI and actually does hold the quantity it says in accordance with weights and measures laws.
The number indicates the regional authority which approved the measuring instrument. Certain trusted manufacturers have their own number as it would be impractical for the DTI to inspect every glass they make. 2043 is the number allocated to glass manufacturer 'Verrerie Cristallerie D’Arques J G Durand & CIE'. So that's who made your Tennant's glass, and they are considered trustworthy enough by the DTI to make pint glasses that actually hold a pint. Full list of identification numbers here in PDF format. thanks . much better than what other suggestions i got back home which included
2043 being the maximum amount of pints you can drink in your life time before it directly kills you 2043 being armageddon 2043 being the date when tennents run out of resources to make any more lager |
