Default Whale diving past submersible

Not much that would scream fake except I just can't get over how impossible it would seem for a sperm whale and unmanned submersible to meet up in such an expansive space as an entire ocean. Unless the whale was just really overwhelming curious. Also the Brazilian friend-of-a-friend is a little suspicious as well.

This circulated earlier this year. I got it April 27, and attributed to work in the Gulf of Mexico. I posted it to myspace videos and shared it here and several other places.

Not impossible. Bright lights, big whale - they are curious about stuff, apparently.

The Brazilian FOAF got to me too, but other than that it seems plausible. Whales do tend to be curious about unfamiliar things, given their hightened intelligence. Plus, since the ban on whaling a couple decades back, some younger whales have never seen a whaling ship before and thus have no fear of the unknown. They have a wide range, but tend to prefer the temperate waters around Central America. In my decidedly non-expert opinion, based on 5 minutes of research done on Google, I'm going to say real.

3000 meters might not be out of the question...

"The most reputable source told us that submarine sonar readings have documented sperm whales at 2500 meters (8200 feet or 27.3 football fields or 1.6 miles below the surface)!"

Epic Battle of the Sperm Whale Information Sources

It's official: New free-diving record is 1,899 meters (6,230 feet)

Quote:
Zoologists studying Cuvier's beaked whale recorded specimens diving 6,230 feet (1,899m) under the surface, easily beating the record of 4000 feet held by the sperm whale.

There is a longer clip of different encounter on youtube.

It does not give any information about the depth or location. The whale seems quite curious in what they are doing.
