Fraternity rape rumor

Hello everyone! Please read this happened to me yesterday...

I have something very important to tell you and please forward or tell every female you know... I don't know if you remember the emails that came out a couple of months ago about the guys that would be in Kmart, Wal-Mart, Target,etc., that would tell you they were in a fraternity and they needed you to do things they could video tape so they could get in, and they would rape you or get off on it... Supposedly this is part of a gang thing...

ANYWAY yesterday 7/30/07 I was in Wal-Mart on my cell phone looking at baby food not paying any attention and I was the only one on the isle... Well first time I looked nobody was there, before I knew it I fell over a man that had some how crouched down right beside my leg without me seeing him even being there, of course I think nothing of it and laughed because I am clumsy... I was still on my cell phone talking and he didn't move, well then I squatted down to get some jars of baby food and he looked at me and said "mam I know you are on your phone, but I have something to ask you," I said ok and he said " I am in a fraternity and I need you to do this for me so I can get in," I didn't even give him a chance to finish, I just ran off when I turned back around he had already made it to the double doors and I didn't see him again,I went and got help, Wal-Mart searched the building and called 911, I had to file a police report and hopefully they will be able to see him on camera... Please be careful, and tell your children and friends, it could save there life.. I never read emails but for some reason I read that one and knew what to do..

Wow, stuck on a desert island and she gets cell phone reception AND there's a Wal-Mart there! Now that's what I call "roughing it!"

It would have been funnier if she was in the section where they sold the sweets. Then I could have made a joke about the "dessert isle."

Also.. isn't it a little EARLY for a Fraternity prank? Doesn't University start in Late Aug, early Sept?

Even if he did get a chance to blurt out what he needed her to do (maybe it was censored so as not to offend our delicate sensibilites,) isn't that awfully polite behavoir for a rapist? Do they usually ask vicitms to do something, in a fairly crowded place no less, and then haul them off whether they agree or not?

Yeah, she was in the store...do they normally do their raping in the baby food isle?

What better place is there to rape a woman than a well lit store filled with people and security cameras?

I read the OP to mean that the frat guy says that they need to video something innocent (or maybe just cheeky) to lure the victim somewhere (or into the victim's home). Then they attack her.

(Doesn't make it any less stupid though)

Why is it always, Walmart, K-Mart or Target in these stories? Do these places attract particularly gullible people?

Well, all of these places, particularly the first two, are associated with rock bottom prices and are assumed to cater largely to the working classes. Hence poverty = lack of education = gullibility? Bit problematic.

Well, if the 'attacks' happened in smaller regional stores we wouldn't know where to be afraid! If I tell you that someone said something wierd to me in Publix and you live on the west coast (or out of the US) you will have no idea what I'm talking about and will thus be IN DANGER!

So one thing I'm curious about. If this is a gang thing, then did the gang members, in an attempt to pass themselves off as fraternity members, don their gang colors with day-glo izod polo shirts, grow their hair out, bleach their hair, and put makeup over their tattoos?
