For years, I've heard a rumor that in the Eighties, a Chinese film company made a movie called "The Green Jade Mah-jongg" (or "The Green Jade Buddha", depending on the source) which starred an American businessman as James Bond. One site even claimed that Entertainment Tonight did a segment about this film around the time it was made.
But I can't find ANYTHING about this movie, and no one seems to have ever seen a copy of it anywhere. It's not even in IMDB. (There is a movie in there called "The Green Jade Dragon" or something, but it's certainly unrelated to this one.) So does this mystery 007 movie actually exist, or is it a fabrication?? |

The mystery deepens - this article even mentions that a guy named Ron Cohen played James Bond...

The closest I can find in "the usual places" is a movie from 1977 named 'The Green Jade Statuette', but it looks like a standard martial arts movie.

That's the one I meant. I've looked into that, and no, it's not the Bond movie.

I wonder whether the segment was part of an April Fool's show.
Of course, that's not to say that fake Bonds haven't been made in Asia: JAMES BATMAN: http://www.mjsimpson.co.uk/reviews/jamesbatman.html A whole bunch of Indian Bonds: http://poptique.blogspot.com/2006/11...ikes-part.html |

Nah, someone verified in an instant message that it is in fact real, and that the actual title of the movie was "The Mahjong Incident."
Despite what I thought, it's NOT a James Bond movie - James Bond has a brief cameo, though. |
