Default Chicago Flood of 1885 kills 90,000 people

I found this in the Chicago Tribune Magazine this weekend. I had never heard of this legend, and I've lived here my entire life, but apparently it's been taken as fact for years.

The article is: The Making of an Urban Legend.

What really made me laugh, my sister-in-law asked me about it and she couldn't believe it was true. I was thinking, did you even read the whole article. The fifth paragraph says it didn't happen.

A flood that killed roughly 10 percent of the population would not go unnoticed.
