"You Go To My Head," Bob Hope and the Navy
Your Correspondent was recently thinking @ some length about something Bob Hope recalled in his memoirs a few years back entitled Don't Shoot, It's Only Me, involving his radio show's doing a broadcast from a Naval base during World War II which featured the musical number "You Go To My Head" causing the bluejackets in the audience to go into hysterical laughter on hearing the very word "head."
("Head" happens to be naval slang for the toilet.)
So much so, in fact, that the Navy issued advice to the producers of Bob Hope's show that "You Go to My Head" not be performed @ broadcasts from Navy or Marine Corps facilities lest similar incidents recur.
Is anyone familiar with this story?
