"All purebred huskies have blue eyes"

So said another dog owner to me at the vet's this morning. I tried to tell her that I have seen huskies with brown eyes, including a gorgeous husky who lived across the street from me 25 years ago, but to no avail. The other had a striking Husky/Akita mix with brown eyes and told me that the brown eyes came from the Akita side. I didn't feel like arguing.
This was one of those I've got to post this on Snopes! moments that I get quite often. I'm sure some of you have purebred huskies--what color are their eyes? Who's right, me or the other owner?

They may be confusing Huskies and Malamutes and colors... Siberian Huskies may have either brown or blue eyes, but purebred Alaskan Malamutes should have only brown eyes.

I had a friend with a number of siberian huskies. Most of them had brown eyes, except for Blaiddfa, who had one brown, one blue. Brown, blue, and any combination of the two colours are permissible for the breed.

The near-amber eyes that Vargen had were a bit more dodgy, though

I have two purebred Sibes and one has two brown eyes and the other has one brown and one blue. We say it's the different parts of her personality (doganality?). When she's good it's the brown eye, when she's not it's the blue.

It could be that people are confusing the breed standards (for showing) with the breed itself.
