Icon97 Baby for adoption through online classifieds?

This was posted on another message board I'm on. If it's a joke, it's not very funny. What do you guys think? Is he for real?

I Googled the first line in qutes, figuring such an ad- legit or a scam- would be on other classifieds, and it seems to be on a few in identical form. Why do you think it is a joke? I would guess that it is either legit- there are private adoptions all the time. It seems odd to advertise ir in such a manner, but maybe this guy is grieving and does not know to seek an agenccy or a lawyer. Maybe he thinks he can "choose" the family for his daughter this way and he will feel better about it.

The other possibility is that it is a scam, a new "Nigerian scheme." I think that is more likely than a joke or hoax just for joke's sake.

ETA: Good pick-up, carter108. I missed that. Also, on another site, the phone number is bizzare, and may be an international code or just made-up:

ETA: She lives in Los Angeles on yet another site (cached only).

I change my vote to Nigerian scheme.

That used to be a commen practice. My mothers favorite Aunt was adopted at a year old because her mother had passed away and she was put up for adoption by her father.

It sounds rather abhorant nowdays, but it used to be the "expected" thing for fathers in that situation to do, if not given away for adoption then sent to someone in the family to raise.

I don't see what's so "abhorrent" about it. It works for pets, so why not babies?

It may be rather odd, but I don't think it's abhorrent.

Thank you for saying that. I was thinking the exact same thing.

If it is true then it is very sad that the father is not able to take care of his child. Why shouldn't he choose who the child would go to live with? What I do find abhorrent is that if somebody must place a child for adoption, it is up to the authorities to decide who would have the child. That surely is anachronism from the time when woman relinquishing child was considered bad.

Well, for one thing, I doubt he's able to do background checks, or investiagte any of the people who reply. That worries me the most. I could see finding someone he knew to do it, and I don't have a problem with the fact that's he's giving the child up (in fact, I think he's probably making the right decision for the child) it just seems like there would be better ways to do it. How does he know it won't be a pedophile that replies?

With that "phone #", I concur.

Also, do you think a legit. company has a classified section like:
Quote:
Postaroo.com » Charleston, SC » For Sale » Baby/Kids » Adopt Our 1 Year Old Daughter Brenda
They actually have a section for Bay/Kids for sale?

ETA: I see now, the section is for kid/baby items, not kid/babies. Note that there is another ad:
Quote:
Person with Brenda please contact me

Reply to: ladybug3812@gmail.com
Price: Free
Location: Charleston, SC
Description: I have tried to contact you through email many times, and it does not work. If Brenda is still available for adoption, please email me.

Thank you!
Cute kid....

Hm. That's a good solution.
Her mother passed away, and her dad finds it hard to give her attention, so the best thing to do is to just get rid of the problem.

"Oh but Inkie, he'll just neglect her, and then she'll be all messed up and get hooked on drugs and pregnant at 12, and then she'll need rehab and therapy! Is that really better?! YOU'RE A MONSTER!!!"
