Most impressive. Silbury Hill is the largest 'pyramid' in Europe (actually it is a cone with its top missing) so the pyramid design is very appropriate. I once sat inside the deepest of the burial chambers the West Kennet longbarrow (seen next to the top edge of the circle) as the sun slowly set. It was weird as the entrance stones reflected the red sunlight down the passage towards me.

That's very pretty. Does anyone know if this ruins the grain? I would think being pressed into the ground like that would make it at least difficult to harvest. In which case, as someone who doesn't like to waste food, I agin' it.

Alas it does ruin the crop if the stalks are broken. The corn in the fireld in question is obviously not ready to harvest (maybe in three or weeks time it will be). If the stalks are not broken then it could still ripen but it is, as you suggest, very hard to harvest.

That said, I am not sure if any farmer has successfully sued a crop circle maker. Many of them are well-known and documentaries have been made about how they form the circles.

According to the article it's a wheat field.

A few years ago I saw a documentary where two older guys claimed to be crop circle creators. Though they had some crude equipment they came across as very unsophisticated. I doubt they would know the difference between a one point & two point perspective. Not sure who creates these, but it definitely wasn't them.

The word 'corn' is used interchangeably with the word 'wheat' in the UK, in the sense that corn means 'grain', not 'maize'.

The first '3d' crop design I heard about was last year, in an Oxfordshire field.

I don't think there is anybody left who actually believes Aliens are responsible for crop designs - are there?

Sure there are. You can recognize them by the tin foil hat they wear.

Dude, do you know how difficult it is to come up with mathmaticaly pleasing geometric patterns? The hardest part would be getting the artwork (you wouldn't even have to create it) and figure out the measurements to make.

A few years ago I saw a documentary (on the BBC?) about a crop circle competition run by a national newspaper. The people in the competition were asked to create some very complex designs using the simplest of tools. There are many (perhaps dozens) of people creating these crop circles. Each year they seem to get more complex. 'The Fortean Times' publishes photographs of the best ones (usually about the September issue).

Thanks HT. How could I have been so wrong!

(Actually what I do like is some of the comments on 'You Tube'. Talk about gullible. I have seen the tape debunked on more than one programme.)

On a more sensible note, here a link to the Circle Makers website. Interesting reading and a lovely gallery. I've always loved crop circles, the scale and design of some are incredible.

Yeah, older guys don't hardly know nothin'.

(I bet you don't know the difference between one point and two point perspective. Please explain it without referring to Wikipedia or any external source.)

I am an architect so obviously I have no idea.

Are we talking about building contractors? That's the only way I see it - the designers and constructors are separate people. Obviously that's the way a lot of things are built.

Someone has to do a little more than show a couple of crude instruments and laugh about how easy it is to create these patterns before I'll believe their claims.

And in other news, they've discovered cattle mutilations in the shape of national landmarks.
