Yes! I would kill those little banditios for stealing my caramel. It's all mine I tell you!!

honestly, I don't know and I wasn't able to find anything to state this as true or false. But since caramel is just sugar I can't see how it could kill a raccoon. Unless it was the really chewy stuff and "glued" the animals mouth shut.

Even then, saliva would dissolve enough sugar in a very brief time to allow the animal to open it's mouth again. I can't imagine that a raccoon has any weaker jaws than a 12 week old kitten, and Zeebee survived her brush with caramel just fine. She snitched a piece of the really chewy/sticky stuff off the coffee table and did in fact manage to glue her little kitten mouth shut.

We called the vet and were going to take her in (yes, we're worry warts), but within 30 minutes she managed to get her little kitten mouth open again, so we called the vet back and said she managed to get unglued all by herself -- vet said since she did, there was no need to bring her in, but to keep the caramel out of reach of the cats in the future. Not a worry though... the rest aren't interested, and Zeebee runs the other way when she sees it now lol.

Most of the really sticky/chewy caramel is homemade or really good commercial (like, actual candy stores that make it on site), and usually they aren't using too many obscure chemicals. So I think we can rule that out. The ingredients list is mostly sugar, some cream, some baking soda, and possibly corn syrup. Nothing a raccoon wouldn't be able to eat (considering they probably come in contact with all of those raiding garbage cans every day heh). So I'm not really sure why anyone would think it would kill them.

If the caramel contains watermelon seeds, it will kill the raccoon.

Are you asking about the seeds or the raccoon?
