Comment: Is there any truth to the old wives' tale that eating too much
sugar/candy before bed will give you nightmares? |

I had hot cocoa before going to bed last night, and had a nightmare, but it's hard to say if the two are related.

Most of my nightmares happen when I'm too warm. I haven't noticed any corrolation with sugar consumption.

I was always told eating cheese before you go to bed gives you nightmares.
I personally have never noticed any link.

Is it possible to dream you're actually being killed in a dream without waking? I posted over in another thread how I dreamed I was about to be killed and then woke up.
I don't think I've never ever actually been killed in a dream. end hijack/ Last edited by jw; 03 July 2007 at 04:16 PM. |

I once had a dream in which I committed suicide. I didn't wake up right away. I had time to watch my funeral before my alarm went off. The thing is, if you die in a dream, it's somewhat illogical for the dream to continue--after all, death stops consciousness, so unless you're going to have some out-of-body, immortal soul experience, there's nowhere else for the story to go. But if you stop dreaming and remain asleep, you probably won't remember the dream upon waking. So the only dreams of death you remember are the ones where you wake up when you die, even though those may not be the only times you dream of death. Does that make any sense?

I dreamed I was dead last night, like a ghost and everything. I didn't have candy, but I did have cheese and crackers about 2 hours before bed.

If I dream I die, and I don't wake up, I've actually died. If I dream I die, and I fall back asleep, I don't die, but I'm unaware so this doesn't count. If I dream I die, and then wake up, I don't die either. So I'm right then? Thanks for trying, btw.

I had a dream where i turned into a zombie.. by being bitten by a zombie, and dying, then coming back... seeing the world as a zombie was very different in my dream then in movies.
I also had a very vivid dream where i was killed many times... I was shot in the chest point blank.. fade to black I was stabbed in teh stomach... fade to black I fell from a window and hit the ground ... fade to black I got hit by a car .. fade to black i was TRYING to wake up.. but could not. |

For me it is. I've been killed in several dreams, and never woken up. (Until I was supposed to.) In one dream, I died several times, and was reincarnated several times. It was a pretty cool dream, actually. Morrigan

i ate cheese before i went to bed to see if that would give me nightmares, and all it gave me were the crazy dreams. like they were supposed to be scary, but they turned out insanely impossible.

i once had a dream where i kept getting killed by a giant golden retriever dog...
the first couple of times was scary, but i kept coming back to life...and after a while it wasn't so bad about him biting my head off all the time. it was just a bit annoying for the last few deaths |

II don't know. I always heard that if you actually die in a dream, you have a heartattack from the shock and really die in your sleep. Apparently that's not the case......

Things like this are really hard to prove.. how do they know the person who died of a heart attack in their sleep was having a nightmare?

That's true. Maybe it was just a story I heard to scare people.

this one time back in like 3rd grade i dreamed me and one of my friends (still friends btw) were arguing, and he hit me in the shoulder, so i hit him back, and his head came off, rock 'em sock 'em robots style, but fell to the floor.... the teacher came back over, put his head back on, and called our parents in and i had to apologize to him for it... but i dont think candy induced it
