Comment: A lady I worked with a while back told me this.
Her mother passed away and she was out of work for several days. When she came back and we were talking she said she knew her mom was going to pass soon because a blue bird or red bird (I can't remember which it was) was in her garage when she got home from work one day and one was in her yard another time. She said they signify someone close to you will die soon when you see one around that much. She said she was told this when she was younger. Is this a made up tail? |

Doesn't mention color: http://www.snopes.com/oldwives/bird.asp
A white moth in the house means death, though. Along with the rest of these things on the list. http://www.corsinet.com/trivia/scary2.html Can't find anything relating to the color of the bird. Morrigan

I've heard this story related to Ravens, but that's it.

I've heard it related to ravens as well. There's a necropolis called Rookwood in Sydney (the largest multi-religion necropolis in the southern hemisphere) that got it's name because of the large flocks of ravens that nested there.

Many people report that, while deep in grief, they have been visited by red birds. The red bird, they tell us, provided comfort and a connection to the loved one they had lost. According to a sacred Cherokee story, the sun's daughter was killed, but returned to her mother in the form of a red bird.
