Icon23 Viggo eats rabbits

Comment: I heard that Viggo Mortenson, the actor that played Aragorn in
the Lord of the Rings movies, stayed in character much of the time they
were filming in New Zealand. At one point he hit a rabbit with a car and
proceded to kill, cook, and eat the rabbit "because that's what a ranger
would do".

Is this true?

I have never heard that in any of the documentaries done during LOTR or heard anything of the sort in the press. I call bogus.

True, he stayed in character allot, but it was only on set and rehearsals that this was the case.

I remember one of the extra features on the extended version of one of the three mentioned him berating several of the other cast members into fishing and then roughing it for the night.

But I don't remember which feature for which film. Helpful, aren't I.

I think it was Two Towers, so they could get the shot of Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli running over the hill at sunrise.

Ya know, I think you're right. And i am comforted that I am not the only snopster to have watched the LOTR special features disks.

Two Towers disk one. The sunrise scene called for the cast to camp out in the wilderness one night so they can shoot. I don;t recall any fishing although Kiren (Frodo's double) invited Viggo to his house and cooked a fish dinner as mentioned on Fellowship (either disk one or 2)
ETA: Badly spanked!

It's Two Towers, I think, because the camping out idea was started because they needed to be up at the crack of dawn to film the New Zealand sunrise for a scene in that film. Then they all fished and he was the only one who caught any thing.
ETA: Doubly spanked. Whohoo!

Nope, you aren't alone! I watched every bit of footage except for the commentary with the finance people or whatever it was they were. And I tried I just couldn't care enough.

Emphasis mine: Hmm how often to do Rangers appear driving cars in either the books or the movies?

Well, it didn't actually say that he was driving the car ...

That would be even more strange...

Aragorn: Behold the Flame of the West, Anduril! *pulls a Corvette out of his scabbard and clunks an orc over the head with it*
Gimli: I really think it looked better before it was re-forged...
