Sting brings South American visitors to U.S., leaves them stranded?

I believe this event allegedly happened many years ago, maybe late 1980s or early 1990s. A friend of mine refuses to listen to Sting or The Police because she says she was told that Sting brought or invited some visitors from South America to the United States for some sort of promotional tour and then either never had them picked them up at the airport, left them stranded somewhere or just ignored them once they had arrived.

I have searched snopes.com and done general searches on the Internet with no luck confirming or denying what I believe is either an urban legend, exaggeration or misunderstanding.
