Icon106 On the Cover of Rolling Stone

Comment: Dr. Hook and the Medcine Show produced a song years ago named "On
the Cover of the Rolling Stone" The song is about how they have done
everything but get their faces on the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine.
In the song Dr. Hook proclaims he will send 5 copies to his mother if it
happens.

After this song came out, They were placed upon the cover of the Rolling
Stone. There has beena rumor that the Rolling Stone sent 5 copies to
everybody's surviving mother. True ot not? (makes for a cute story but
then I guess of lot of things you hear are cute but not true.)

Technically, they never had their photo on the cover - it was a caricature.

They sang about getting their "picture on the cover of the Rolling Stone." Technically, a caricature isn't a photograph, but it is a picture.

I don't know whether the part about their mothers is true, but I read that they did make the cover in March 1973, with the caption, "What's-Their-Names Make the Cover."

And oh, Gerry Gersten did the cover... I remember some of his stuff in MAD Magazine.

Forgive me if my memory was bad, but didn't the song say that they were going to send five copies?

Even so, its not really worth doling over, it's not like Rolling Stone can't afford to give 30 copies to the band for gifts.

Actually, the lyric is "Gonna buy five copies for my mother". There's no mention of actually sending them.

Yea, thats what I remember it as. That does imply one of two things:
1) They will either send it or deliver it personally.
2) The band members still live at home with their parents...

True, because I wouldn't buy something for you and then keep it. I was buying it for you.
