Dog Dog Cruise and Airline?

I can't figure out if this website is for real or not... Any help? If this is real, it's the first real cruise I've ever heard of that allows dogs (not counting service dogs...)

I wonder if they schedule trips to Dog Island.

Based on the lack of any actual information about their tour packages and services, lack of names (it was started by "two people"), and their lack of a phone number, it seems like it's either a fake site or a service that hasn't actually started yet.

Their basic rules seem to go against many ideals of taking a pet on vacation. For example:

Quote:
Dogs MUST be leashed at all times. A standard 6' leather leash is required (no Flexi-leads). Anyone intentionally releasing a dog during an event or trip will automatically be asked to leave the event or trip at their own cost, and will not be welcome on any further events or trips.
I can't imagine any service that caters to dogs not allowing them at least some time to run free, such as in a specific fenced off-leash area.

I found one e-mail address, on the Privacy Statement that was also a man's name. (Carl something.)

And, of course, this:

I don't see this as unreasonable, it's just a matter of finding a niche market. I've seen a café here in Sweden that allows dogs. Dogs are usually not allow in establishments where food is served, but as this is a special interest place for dog owners, they get away with it.

That's a safety precaution. Some dogs don't play well with other dogs, and they are invariably owned by people who don't see that as a problem.

Slight hijack--I read the snopes link and the website, but I don't see what it has to do with dog-eating/Asians...there didn't seem to be much on the site that referenced it. Or is the site designed so that we the reader assume that the "dog island" is purporting to be a sanctuary but is really a place for people who are raising dogs for food?

Once upon a time dogs were definitely not allowed in restaurants, but then came an EU ruling that Sweden had to change the law, which led to a chaotic interregnum until it was finally decided that dogs can be allowed in the bar area of a restaurant if the landlord says so. Otherwise they are not let in.

Dogs are often allowed on restraunt/cafe patios here, and inside things like hardware, liquor and video stores. It's good for them, and good for me, cause I like my bubby with me.

As to the OP, If they did offer dog friendly flights, I'd be ecstatic. I will NOT put the pup in a cargo hold. Will not. So, I have to drive everywhere.

Here in Chicago they are currently trying to pass a law that dogs can be allowed at outdoor seating in restaurants if the restaurant owner consents. They are facing objections from several fronts (like the health department) which are mostly saying that the dogs will be disruptive or otherwise a nuisance. The thing is, people have already been bringing their dogs to restaurant patios for many years with no problems...the law will just make it official (and keep the health department from fining those restaurants.) There are also a number of bars which allow dogs, apparently they can do so if the bar doesn't serve food.

Now, on the original topic I posted-- someone posted on a dog message board I go to saying they are one of the people who is starting the "Dog Travel Company" and they said that they're "going live" this summer, which could explain the lack of info (or, it's a fake...)

The site originally had several in-joking references to Asians and dog-eating, but the students who put the site together received too many negative reactions and soon edited most of those references out of the site.

I saw this place at least five years before we became a dominion of the EU, so it was apparently possible to do even then. I suspect that if you advertise clearly as a "dogs allowed cafe", the guests knows what they'll get and can avoid it if they are not OK with that.

In Europe you certainly can take dogs just about anywhere. I travelled across France and Germany with my Borzoi and Whippet, and although i knew I can bring my dogs into the restaurants with me, I always expected somebody to at least look displeased. On the contrary I could hardly eat my meal in peace as everybody came to "talk" to the dogs.
In Paris I often ate in a restaurant that had a large GSD strategically positioned in the doorway to the kitchen, so all the waiters had to step over him. Not even the presence of my dogs would inspire him to move.
In the past dogs were allowed on the ocean cruises. I know that the captain of Titanic had a Borzoi with him on the fateful voyage.
