D'oh! IBS cause revealed

I heard this one at an IBS self-help group, and since I know some Snopesters have IBS I thought you all might be interested in this:

It seems that the cause of IBS-D (diarrhea predominant) is simply caused by...(drumroll please)... super-absorbent maxi pads! One member reported that when she stopped using the pads and switched to tampons, she had no more problems. It seems that the pads were SO absorbent that they were just sucking all liquids right out of her.

Of course, that doesn't work for anyone who doesn't menstruate, but hey, if it shines her tinfoil hat, what the heck, right?

Now back to your regularly scheduled board session...

I menstruate, but I don't use super-absorbent maxi-pads, and at the time I was diagnosed, I used only tampons.

This woman has a very interesting concept of how the digestive system works. Does she think there's a poop reservoir just past the rectum?

I'm guessing so.

Ewww! That means now she's sucking the poop from above the rectum down into the vagina! Doesn't she know that she can get endometriosis from that?

I know that I didn't even develop IBS until well after I stopped using pads in favor of tampons. Maybe the cause is tampons??

Of course, I still had IBS issues when I was on the continuous pill and didn't even have periods for three years, but, hey, what do I know?

That should do it . . . Okay, wait, I've got a question. Does it work in reverse also? I have the other kind of IBS with severe constipation. (You don't know pain until you pass a BM the size of a quart of milk!). Does that mean I should switch to a stronger pad?

You think that's bad? I get both. Does that mean I need to keep switching back and forth? Actually I use a Diva Cup most of the time - so much for that theory...
