Comment: I was curious if Snopes plans to look into the claims that 2
slightly different versions of the final scene of "The Sopranos" finale were aired? There are several ongoing discussions about the supposed discrepancy on "The Sopranos" page at www.imdb.com |

Comment: The Sopranos finale disappointed most fans. The screen went to black and the credits ran leaving most viewers screaming at their TVs. I was buying cat food yesterday and the young man behind the counter was streaming a conversation about it on his computer. When I stopped to hear a comment he asked if I had watched. I was complaining about what I thought was an inadequate ending when he asked if I had watched the credits conclude. I said I didn't because a friend called giving the ending a negative review. He said at the last credit the screen came back to a shot of a hand and a gun and "Tony" was shot and then the screen went black again. I thought that would have been a fitting end to the Mob boss. Well, it turns out that after asking several friends if they had watched the credits completely and saying I was anxious to get home and re-watch the ending that I had been sucked into the newest Urban Legend. I had to call back and apologize.

Has anybody heard the story that the Actor playing the Man at the Counter is billed as Nikki Leotardo?
There is appearently an email circulating claiming this Actor played the role as Phil's Nephew earlier in the Season. This is apperantly not true, according to the Slate.com, TV club Discussion, as the actor at the counter was just an extra who had never appeared in anything prior to that scene. I didn't record it, and I don't have Tivo, so here's a question to the people that do: 1) Is there a Nikki Leotardo in the Credits? 2) Does anyone know where that actor appeared in the episode? Beyond that David Chase is implying according to his interview in the Newark Star Ledger, that he only wrote what he wrote in the scene and that the question of Tony's life or death is up to the audience to determine. He claims to have made no decision on that himself at this time. Personally, I think Tony lived, he had his eye on the guy at the counter, so I doubt the guy would have gotten the drop on him if he was a hitman. One thing the episode did show was that Tony is a lot shrewder than folks gave him credit for. As an example, When Paulie Calls Tony, Tony uses as prepaid cell (as any modern day criminal would) Phil uses pay phones at gas stations in New Jersey, no less, to make his calls. This means Phil has to be out and about more often, making it impossible for his people to talk to him in an emergency, and making it more likely he'll get spotted. But it is for each of us to find our own ending to the Sopranos. Just don't stop... |

I watched again last night. Plus, I know it's on youtube.com. (It's pretty easy to pay attention to the credits when there is utter silence.) I didn't see any Nikki Leotardo. People seem to think that the guy in the Members Only jacket who entered the bathroom was Nikki Leotardo. They usually don't credit someone with multiple roles, anyway.
There's another thread on Sopranos for discussing the non UL-ish elements (plot, characters, the ending)...so I'll save my replies to your other questions for that thread, matches.

Of all the post-Sopranos finale theories, the one that quickly rose to the top concerned "Nikki Leotardo," identified as the guy in the Members Only jacket at the counter. There was just one problem. The theory was total bunk.
No one is more certain of this theory's fictional basis than Christopher Swenson, the guy who claims he made it up. He didn't set out to pull off the latest, greatest Internet hoax, rather, he was just amusing himself by conjuring a ridiculous theory to throw out to all the desperate Sopranos bloggers. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...1.43a07cb.html |
