The ID SNIPER rifle is used to implant a GPS-microchip in the body of a human being, using a high powered sniper rifle as the long distance injector. The microchip will enter the body and stay there, causing no internal damage, and only a very small amount of physical pain to the target. It will feel like a mosquito-bite lasting a fraction of a second. At the same time a digital camcorder with a zoom-lense fitted within the scope will take a high-resolution picture of the target. This picture will be stored on a memory card for later image-analysis.

The pain would last a little longer than a "fraction of a second." Even if the dart had an anaesthetic coating, the initial puncture would feel like a nasty bee-sting or worse. There would also likely be some bleeding.
Also: do you really want to take the photo at the same moment you shoot? I mean, if it's me, I'm gonna aim for the guy's gluteus maximus, and that doesn't make a really useful ID photo! Silas |

The page includes a link to Io- Interactive. The video game company that produces the Hitman series. I think this is a viral webpage. Maybe their making a sequel to Freedom Fighters?
No self respecting security company would use the phrase 'without causing damage to the all important image of the state.' in their advertisement. Pretty ballsy to link to the Department of Homeland Security on your fake viral site. |

They ran this story on NPR. The guy who "invented" it did it as a research project. That photo and all the information was made up. He brought the presentation to a global arms dealers convention. I believe there were a few large repressive governments who were actually interested in this technology. I searched NPR's website but can't find it, I will keep trying.
Here is something on it, http://www.engadget.com/2004/04/28/c...er-rifle-hoax/ And here: http://www.cynical-c.com/archives/002765.html Last edited by alex47kalashnikov; 12 June 2007 at 07:40 PM. Reason: Add link, again |

I would think that anything being shot from a sniper rifle would hurt more than a mosquito bite. and wouldn't take a good picture from the resulted slap.

Very true, I believe one of the interested parties was wanting to keep track of livestock, or something to that extent. It is still very 1984ish in my books.
