The UK Times is also reporting this. I have no idea if the UK Times is a reliable news source, but the Daily Mail has an iffy reputation.

President Obama rode in an armored limousine in his procession to the Palace, but other leaders before him used the gilded carriage. I think an armored limousine sounds much more safe and efficient.

I rank the Times alongside the Guardian in terms of accuracy, ie pretty good. The Times is slightly right leaning, though.

To be fair, if I understand it right the Queen already has a gold-plated, or at least gold-painted (I'm not sure which), carriage that is actually ordinarily used for state visits. The headline makes it sound as if Trump wants them to go gold-plate one for him in particular.

However, I agree that he ought to settle for whatever the security specialists are recommending; and not only because of extra cost and hassle. Bad as the situation is, I doubt it would be improved by a successful assassin.
