It was too quick for me to take a photo of my own but I spotted an Eastern Spinebill in my garden for the first time today:

They went through too fast for a picture but it was a small covey of Gambel's quail running through the front drive just now.

I adore Gambel's quails. Especially when they go vertical to run. Also.when you see the line of mom, dad, and dustbunnies with legs (the chicks) running in a line.

No pics but DW claims she hasn't been drinking. She is driving from Alamogordo to Las Cruces and claims to have seen an oryx. They are really there.

Deer

DH saw a deer in our yard yesterday afternoon. No surprise, since I'm starting to see them in my neighborhood. So much for my theory that 26 years worth of dog pee in the yard is a deterrent!

Well I guess the ringtail possums approve of the new birdseed feeder I hung in my backyard, this one was having a grand old time stuffing its face.

That is a lovely doe, a deer, a female... ahem....

I'm intrigued by the vehicle's license plate-- R8RSOUL. Rater soul? Or the 8 could be seen as a B and we could have RBRSOUL. RubberSoul? Robber? Hmmm....

She looks like she's showing off her action at a horse show.

Deer

So since she’s a doe, she’s Vixen, right?(Not knowing the gender of Dancer or Prancer.)

Ooooops.... so sorry I didn't catch that.

I have to admit my favorite band in the 60s were the Monkees. (I was only 6).

Hey, hey and all.

She's adorable!!

Yesterday when driving home from my parents' I saw a deer suckling two fawns in the road. Deer are unfortunately not uncommon in our town but I've never seen any nursing before. It was sweet to see but also sad, they have so little undeveloped land left that nursing in the road is just a thing to do. I imagined what might happen if someone had come around the corner faster than I did

Prancer had been my 1st thought when I saw her.

I honestly hadn't noticed the license plate before. I really don't know my neighbors very well. We haven't lived here long. There's a block party in a couple weeks though, so maybe I will get to know them better. I would guess they are about the right age to have grown up with the Beatles though, and this town is very artsy with a lot of old hippy types, so it wouldn't surprise me if that's what it was in regards to.

They're all female. Only female reindeer still have horns in December.
