Default Small plane crashes on 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills

A small plane crashed on the northbound 101 in Agoura Hills on Tuesday, and the fiery wreck shut down both sides of the freeway for hours.

Hi All:

Someone seems to have parked a Texan/Harvard in German WWII colours on the freeway. Lucky that no cars were struck or ran into the aircraft,

It actually looked a pretty decent landing under the circumstances (it's amazing how absolutely everything is being filmed these days). It almost looked as though he'd got it down in one piece, so it's a shame it then caught fire.

I wonder what caused that fire - was the engine or something already about to burst into flames after its failure, or did a fuel tank get ruptured when it scraped the central divider, or what? I expect the investigation will show.

The picture I saw showed the wing broken by the jersey barrier; if there was a wing tank, that would conceivably be the source of the fire.

The Texan has only one fuel tank in the center wing section under the fuselage. Based on the fact that it was the main fuselage that was destroyed, I'd guess the fire was from that tank.
