If I begin to stir, but take too long to wake up or recognize that kitty is none-to-impatiently waiting to start the morning ritual, he'll employ the M.E.W. (Mouth to Ear Wake-up) technique.
First, he'll come up and look me in the face to see if my eyes are open. If they are, he'll push his face into mine to let me know he's waiting for attention (and to be fed). If they're not open, he'll put his mouth directly next to my ear and meow. Not the little question mark meow, but a no nonsense 'get up, you oaf' kind of meow. The first time he did it, I feared I'd rolled over on him, only to wake face to hairy face with him peering at me with his head close to the sheets. He doesn't do it often; only when I'm too slow in the morning. ~Psihala |

When I am drinking beverages (adult or otherwise), Ferdinand likes to lick the outside of the can/cup/whatever. I thought at first it was the condensation, or the cold, except he wants to do so even when there is no condensation or the beverage has reached room temperature.

It's a mostly dog thing in our house, but I'm not surprised at all of the cats who prefer what we call "wild water." Any water that is outside is wild water. Water with things in it is extra wild. Wild > tame water.

I just want to posit that there are no "weird cat behaviors," just simply "cat behaviors" because cats are weird by default.

Katydid* has gotten into the not so endearing habit of scratching at the window at my bed's headboard and bopping at the blinds about 30 minutes to an hour before I have to get up.

I have one of these wake up lights. When the light comes on, 30 minutes before I have to be up, Nelson comes over and nudges my face with his nose, or puts his paw on my face. And I'm like "No, I still get to sleep for another 30 minutes."

Marmalade knows where the toy box is.
![]() We have a basket on the floor by the TV that has a bunch of Ash's old cat toys in it. Marmalade has found it, and every now and then goes rooting around in it to bring out another toy. It is every bit like a little kid rummaging through their toy box to find something new and interesting to play with. ![]() |

Ask her to be quiet. Amazingly enough it works.

I once told my cat that if she wouldn't settle down to sleep on my pillow (instead of bugging me for attention), she would have to leave the room. She turned, walked across the bed, jumped down, and left the room.
I had always suspected that she understood more English than she let on. |

The weirdest behavioral thing about my cat is how chill she is.
She's just fine with me trimming her nails. If she hears a loud noisy thing like thunder or fireworks, she gets in my lap. When she sees her carrier, she runs under my bed, but two minutes later she'll be out and willing to let me put her in it without struggling. |

Hammy has a pom-pom* that he loves. He will "sing" to the pom-pom -- or through the pom-pom, while carrying it around in his mouth -- quite loudly, often when we're trying to sleep.
*Not a homemade pom-pom with strings he could swallow, but a roughly spherical bit of batting covered with fake fur. |

Ash trills like that with THE FISHY!*
So far, Marmalade's favorite toy appears to be all toys. ![]() *THE FISHY! (It must always be spelled and said in ALL CAPS) is the greatest cat toy in the world. |

If it were the greatest toy in the world, wouldn't it be able to swim in the water dish?

River isn't that chill. At the vet's office, she buries her face in my chest as hard as she can. She does not like the vet. The vet takes her temperature.

What Hammy does is not exactly trilling. It's more like loud, extended moaning.

Ferdinand loves his vet--she gives him treats and thinks he's adorable.
He also loves to go to the vet's in general, so long as we don't leave the waiting room. Because of his meds, we go there fairly often (it's only a block and a half away), and he's learned to stand on the animal scale to get a dried liver treat. Seaboe |
