Icon19 Procrastinators Club of America vs. Whitechapel Bell Foundry

Comment: In 1972, the Procrastinators Club of America sent a letter to the
Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London, complaining that the Liberty Bell was
cracked.

After an interval, the foundry responded:

"We would be happy to provide a replacement bell. Kindly return the
damaged bell to us in its original packaging."

A friend sent this message to me. It sounded like a UL but I wanted to
check.

It is all true

Quote:
The Whitechapel Foundry's connection with the Liberty Bell was reestablished in 1976, the year of the US Bicentennial. First, there was a group of about thirty or so 'demonstrators' from the Procrastinators Society of America who mounted a mock protest over the bell's defects and who marched up and down outside the Foundry with placards proclaiming WE GOT A LEMON and WHAT ABOUT THE WARRANTY?. We told them we would be happy to replace the bell - as long as it was returned to us in its original packaging.

I vote false. Procrastinators would still be working on the letter.

It did take them 200 years (and according to the Foundry the Procrastinators did not send a letter, but turned up in person)

It's true! I have the photographic evidence in my desk somewhere (my uncle was in the foundry the day they showed up to ask about the bell and snapped a couple pictures because he thought the guy was Paul Newman). It's right ummm, no, wait, I had it when I applied for membership in the Procrastinators Club. I was going to use it to assure I would be accepted. I was passed over for membership in the Liar's Club for not including a faked Kenyan Birth Certificate. Here's the application. Now where are those photos? I'll get them out tomorrow.

Now I KNOW it isn't true. The procrastinators are still sitting around deciding when they should protest.
