Icon09 Cathay Pacific spells its name wrong on side of plane

Cathay Pacific has given visitors to Hong Kong airport a surprise by spelling its name wrong on the side of a plane. The Boeing 777-367 was emblazoned with the words “Cathay Paciic”.

Better than forgetting to pressurise the cabin:

Reminds me of the upside-down Maryland flag seen on one of the local ambulances.

DawnStorm, is it possible that's deliberate?

Flying a flag upside down is a distress signal, IIRC.

Or someone took the whole "spell 'Ambulance' backwards on the front" thing too far.

Regarding the misspelling of the name, it is possible the maintenance people who painted it had no more f's to give?

No because the flag is right-side up on the other side of the vehicle as well as on the other vehicles. Seems to me that whatever contractor applied that decal should replace it for free.

We are talking about Maryland's flag though--figuring out which side goes up can be confusing. [answer: it's the black/yellow corner]

Oh someone give a rim shot for GenYus.

We had something like this happen a few years ago with a word painted on the ground. The people working the stencils don't actually get a good view of the word as it is being painted, only part of the letter they are painting.

That is how we essentially ended up with a "SOLW" phrase on the ground in a school zone.

I can easily see the people up close sorting through their template letters and missing the F.

The foreman, though...

"You only had one job!"

Snickers had a commercial where hunger caused the groundskeeper to paint "CHEFS" in the Kansas City Chiefs end zone.

ETA: Memorable (to me) for his reaction. "Great googely moogely."

I once saw a photo in a National Lampoon book showing "SOTP" stenciled on a road. The caption: "Honest, Officer, I tried to sotp but I didn't know how."

A flooring store near where I used to live had a sign out front that advertised "Inlaid Viny". It took me years to notice.

While looking through Christmas ornaments at Target a few years ago, I came across one that had "NEOL" written on it in glitter.

The closes I can come to this is a sign in a parking lot where I used to work as a teen

It said "no skateboarding"
the french translation below "defence de tartiquer le rouli-roulant"

FYI: tartiquer is NOT a verb...

Since it's also a Cathay Pacific plane (spelled correctly), I thought I'd throw this in here: First Boeing 777 ever built goes to museum in Tucson, Arizona.
