Icon13 Michelle Obama bans ketchup in schools

Comment: I was just told by a friend of mine who is a school teacher in
Tennessee that Mrs. Obama BANNED THE USE OF KETCHUP IN THE SCHOOLS! This
sound outrageous to me, but she swears that it is true!

Of course the ketchup was banned.

It couldn't cut the mustard.

I know, I'll get it

Now kids will be stealing tomato juice (healthy) and closet sized labs with sugar and spice (both nice) and cook some ketchup (evil).

It is the downfall of school aged civilization as we know it.

I have been seeing a ton of outrage posts about how Michelle Obama is ruining school lunch with her misguided health policies.

How it prevents bake sales (http://dailycaller.com/2014/08/01/mi...ake-sale-bans/)

And how the meals policies are so restrictive even the kids are complaining (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014...spell-out-why/)

but both of these issues seem to me being administrators interpreting to the nth degree and using this as a punishment to the kids in a manner in which to have the policies dropped due to outrage.

I'm going to take a guess that the same people who bitch about the Federal school lunch rules (which usually don't apply to schools that don't take Federal funds for lunch programs) are the same people who have no problem with setting very strict guidelines about what people on food stamps or similar programs can buy with their government moneyl.

They were probably also the people who were trying to connect Heinz with John Kerry in 2004.

This far in and no one's made a Reagan crack. Okay I will.

She's doing this to throw mud at Reagan's proud legacy

Although I couldn't remember which president it was that the vegetable thing was attached to... (I'd swear I've seen that as an outrageous thing Obama did as well).

Of course you have. Every outrageous thing that a US president has done in the last 40 or so years has been attached to Obama at some point or another.

See now I would have said it was Bush the first, if asked to guess.

There's actually a Wikipedia page about it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketchup_as_a_vegetable

Under "Similar efforts" it says that in 2011 (under Obama's presidency) the USDA tried to increase the amount of tomato paste that counted as a serving of vegetables, but it was blocked by Congress. The effect was that the amount of tomato paste on a slice of pizza continued to be enough to count as a serving of vegetables, whereas the new USDA rules would have said it wasn't. This was reported as Congress declaring pizza to be a vegetable. So that might have been what I was thinking of with relation to Obama...

Lately I have tended to make my own tomarto sauce, wether it be what you in America call ketchup, what I use on homemade pizza or what I use on pasta. I do this cause it is I make a bulk mixture of a basic tomarto sauce and vary it for use. I add garlic, onion and capicum (bell peppers). And maybe some herbs. I freeze it in usable amounts. I don't know if it cheaper but I figure it better then buying a jar or bottle of each and letting it sit in the fridge till it goes off if it something I don't use much.

I fiqure that should count as at lest half a serving of vegetables.

I should really get around to planting my own tomartoes.
