Certain, lazy coworker,

It's pretty obvious you don't rotate stock when it comes in, when the items in the new packaging are in front of the items in the old packaging. No wonder we throw so much stuff out. FIFO, moron.

Yeah--IT and telecom seems to be pretty intertwined, so same thing here. The longest I stayed at any (civilian) job was five years, one quarter, and one week (the reason I know this so exactly is because it worked in my favor when the company went under and started downsizing--they gave us a month's salary based off every year the employee had been there, and if you were there another quarter, they counted it as one more year, so therefore one more month's pay. I just barely made it, so I got six months' pay when I was let go, instead of five.) The shortest length of stay was seven months. For fun, I averaged out all the civilian jobs I've had since I started working in the civilian world, and it averages out to a little under 3 years for length of time at any one job. Sort of makes me feel like I'm flaky, somehow. (But even if you add my military time in, the average only just goes up to three years at any one job.) But that's the nature of this field it seems--I really don't know *anybody* in this field who has remained at the same company for very long--longest I know of is seven years. It seems people in IT/Telecom get bored easily and like to move around.

Myself, I have to admit I'm torn between staying in Colorado or possibly moving somewhere else (Washington State also appeals to me, but so does New England.)

Dear students-

If course grades were based on the grade you desired rather than the grade you earned, everyone would have an A and there'd be no point in actually bothering to teach the class or learn anything. My grading scheme is clearly broken down, scores are posted online. It should not have been a surprise to many of you that you did not earn an A.

I wish you all had earned an A too, but I can't magically erase your class record in order to give (and it would be just that, a gift) you that grade. That would be a violation of my professional integrity; you're essentially asking me to cheat for you, and I won't do that.

Magdalene-

Yep that's about right for an average. I have known some people who had been at my last job for years as a contractor- at least one was there for 6-7 years then she was offered full time status. Back in the Y2K days- I knew a few who had been on a contractor basis for more than 8 years and with the same client during that time too- not unheard of but rare. It's definitely true that some IT folks do get bored and move around lol. I'm one of them I guess; my family hates it.

D,

I'm truly sorry about all the various issues hitting your life right now.

One of the ones you touched on last night, however, is one that's been going on for awhile it seems...but last night it reached a new level. (Deep breath.) If you've gotten to the point of asking us to spy on your husband for you and report back to you....then your marriage is over. Because whether he is cheating or not, you no longer trust him. (And to be honest, you haven't sounded happy with him for a long time, to the point where I 've found myself wondering why you went through with the wedding.)

I'm very sorry.

Magdalene

D'oh!

Dear Mr. Ted Nugent:

I heard a clip of you on the news saying that Obama was not a real president or words to that effect. Stuff like that used to be said about his predecessor--did you agree with that, or is Obama a fake because you don't agree with him? No, I'm not crazy about the president's policies either, but he was elected, got the gig a second time, and is indeed the president of this country. Put on your big boy pants and deal with it!

A Grown Woman.

PS: I'm sure we share some points of view, but I'm willing to listen, talk with, and learn from those who (may) disagree with me. I don't think you are.

To the woman making a scene at the concert yesterday about having to be searched, questioning the right to search and wondering why the ACLU doesn't get involved:

You know perfectly well why searches were being done at the gates. Hint: It might have had something to do with the incident about a month ago. If another incident had happened yesterday you'd be upset that they let someone in with a backpack without being searched.

Thanks.

Bill

Dear stomach,

You better not repeat last night's incident. Today, I was not working, but I'm still paying for you hurting me so much that I couldn't sleep until 3 am. Tomorrow, I have to wake up at 4.30 am. So, please, leave me alone, alright ?

Seems to me that the concert is at private venue or at the very least run by a private company, so if they have a search all bags policy that's their prerogative. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Dear T and C,

I am flattered by you coming to me for advice, but here's the thing: I haven't lived in Tulsa for fifteen years, and have only kept in touch with a sporadic group of people I knew when I lived there, most of whom no longer do themselves. In fact, only one person I knew from my Tulsa days is still in the area, and she moved about an hour and a half northeast of it.

So, I do not know the following:

1.) What goth clubs exist in Tulsa.

2.) What are the schools like in Tulsa (not having kids, I wouldn't have known this anyway.)

3.) What specialty stores exist in Tulsa.

4.) Who the cable providers are (OK, this you'd think I'd know or remember, but I honestly don't.)

5.) Which cell phones get the best coverage in Tulsa (cell phones were just catching on as I *left*.)

Good luck,
Mags

Dear T and C,

Magdalene is to polite to mention it, but all your questions (maybe apart from No.2.) can be answered by using Google - or Bing, if you're so inclined.

I really don't know.

It was an outdoor concert, on state-run property. I'm not sure who actually "runs" it, the state or some promoting organization that booked it.

Even if it were totally government-run, you'd think it would be justified in the name of public safety.

Thanks.

Bill

Dear Wife Of My Ex,

Hi. We haven't exactly met, although I've heard a few things about you here and there. Nothing bad or anything like that. I'm sure you're probably a very nice person.

So your apparent hatred of me is baffling, to say the least.

I broke up with your husband a decade ago. A friggin *decade* ago. Like, before the two of you even met. Yes, I talk to him maybe once or twice a *year*, because we're from the same small town and had a lot of the same friends. Good gravy, that doesn't mean I want him back. I have a very nice life in another country with a wonderful spouse (of almost 9 years) and two kids. You actually said, and I quote, "People can still get on planes." Are you kidding me? Do you seriously think I think so little of my family that I'd run away... with your husband? LMAO. As if.

Look, would you like to know why I dumped him? Because he was a cheating, lying, abusive NFBSKing NFBSKhole, that's why. To be fair, I wasn't a saint, either. The point is, we were so mismatched, it isn't even funny. He told me he's changed, he found religion, all thanks to you. Great. Good for both of you. Really, this is all ancient history, I am *so* over it, and I'm sure he is, too.

So please, take a giant chill pill and stop pouting/avoiding whenever I make my five-yearly visit back to the States. Your huz has already met my partner; it would be nice to meet you, too.

Kind Regards,

Tori

Dear M,
Yes, I "surprisingly" put my foot down on the OT this weekend.
I said I would give up a day and a half of my weekend to come in and help grind out the emails, and that is what I will do. Guilting me into taking calls instead will not work, and further attempts to do so will result in me "not being able to come in due to a family emergency." I feel icky even thinking that, but that is were I am.
I already came in 3 and a half hours early on Monday and Tuesday to help out; Monday because you needed help to manually enter all the weekend cases into the new program and Tuesday because the new program was still broken and flawed on Monday for half the day and we didn't get the cases entered.
As a result of this, and all the people who would have emailed us over the weekend deciding to just wait and email us rather than call, we have over 3000 emails and we are not gaining ground.
Call me heartless, but I care more about the people who are waiting DAYS for help than I do about the people who are calling in and waiting up to 15 mins.
And lest you forget... From the middle of November to the middle of January, I routinely worked 12 hours a day to bail you out, so I think I've earned the right to have a say in what my OT looks like this weekend.

Dear Phoenix Firefighters:

I do appreciate the fact that you wish to memorialize your fallen comrade. And that you wish to hold a funeral procession for him. But is 3 pm to 7 pm on a Friday before a three-day weekend really an appropriate time to be shutting down 20 miles of freeway for said procession?

Dear sales rep I support,

Let me make sure I understand your request. You want me to reproduce a report that normally comes from corporate, is only provided to customers who pay for an additional service from us, and you want it by Tuesday? Does that about sum it up?

No.
