chf$12K is part of the reason I don't care for Rolexes: To me they're just too far up the price curve into the area of paying a lot of money for something that isn't important to me.
I have a big heavy stainless Tag Heuer automatic chronograph, cost about like a Gibson LesPaul. Bought it in 2002 (nearly 10 years now, wow) and have worn it every day other than a couple times I sent it in for clean&adjustment.
I like the weight. I tried a couple titanium Omega, I like how they look too, but I like the 180g block of stainless. A 180g block of gold would be around chf$10,000 today, so if you buy a watch really made of solid gold, that's what you're paying for.
