Default Fake Michael Jackson video

I haven't heard of this before, but stumbled across this site:

http://www.bartlspielt.de/2009/08/27...ake-video-aus/

(Rough, amateurish) translation of the accompanying text:

Quote:
On tuesday, a video went viral on the internet, purportedly showing Michael Jackson getting off a coroner's car. The video was a topic around the world, with heaps of blogs and news sites like "bild.de" (a German tabloid's web presence) and "Daily Telegraph" reporting on it. 24 hours after being published, it had 140,000 views. Now it transpired: the video is a fake, put online by RTL (Luxemburgian television station in Germany). On thursday, Aug 27th, RTL will send a piece in its show "Explosiv" about "How easily can conspirational theorists be fooled?" and clear the thing up.
Video is on the page.

When this was still believed legit, I examined it closely and found two glaring errors, compared to the real coroner's van (as pictured parked outside Michael's house):

* The real license plate number ended with a "0". The one in the video has a "1". (The rest of the number is identical, however.)
* The real "CORONER" font was Eurostyle, or something similar; this van uses a very out of date, rounder font.

Otherwise, they got the details pretty damn close.

Case closed

"A hoax video purporting to show Michael Jackson hopping out of a coroner's van alive was produced by a German television station as an experiment, the broadcaster told CNN Monday."

'Clear the thing up', sure. Anyone want to make any bets on just how many years this conspiracy will continue to float in the ether?

People still believe in that loch ness monster photo even though the hoaxers have confessed. Do the producers of "Explosiv" really think that conspiracy theorists are that easily fooled but even more easily deterred?

"Experiment" as in "we tried to get away with something, but got caught."

Photo "I wasn't robbing the bank, it was an experiment to see how people would react" Bob
