Dog Greyhound racing Amendment 13 passes in Florida, phasing out sport by 2020

Good news for ebil greyhounds!

Florida voters wrapped their arms around greyhounds on election night, overwhelmingly supporting an amendment that bans commercial dog racing.

Good new for the ebil ones. I'm hoping this won't result in mass euthanasia of the racing dogs when the race companies pull out. I'm sure the greyhound rescue groups will do all they can, but some owners may be cruel or spiteful enough to kill their dogs to deliberately hurt the advocates of this ban.

My group's already seeing an upswing in dogs coming in. Several of them have been the ebil Kyria's pups (now grown).

Adventures in greyhound adoption: One of my cats is the official cat-tester for the Ebil Greyhounds entering retirement. What my group does is we take the cat to the kennel. I have the cat on a leash. We bring the dog in, leashed and muzzled, to meet the cat to see if said Ebil Greyhound could live with a cat or not. (Things we look for is the dog drooling, licking its chops, unable to distract the dog from the cat--those pretty much mean the dog cannot live with a cat, because it sees the cat as prey.) We also look at my cat's reaction (is he growling and hissing at the dog, or is he relaxed and calm around it?)

Well, recently, one of the kennels had a five-month old greyhound puppy for us. We don't usually get puppies, but sometimes we do. So we cat-tested this adorable bundle of Ebilness in training.....and OMG, it was hysterical! He licked the kitty. He playbowed to the kitty. He pawed at the kitty to try and get it to play. He licked the kitty some more. (At this point, my cat was looking at all of us with a, "Oh for crying out loud, REALLY?" expression on his face. He wasn't scared, angry, or anything, just, "Oh my God, it's LICKING me!"

Was it bad of us that we were laughing at my poor cat?

Not at all. Mum and Dad house and pet sit. A few years ago they pet sat for a friend who had two Labradors and two cats. The cat came in and one dog looked at it like it was saying "There's our cat, hello cat" big lick "That our cat!!" The cat looked startled though I am sure it wasn't the first time it had happened.

When my sister brought her dog over, Serenity didn't want to have anything to do with the dog. She didn't hiss or fluff up or hide, she just found a high spot that the lick-y dog couldn't get at and she could see what dog was up to. She was pretty relaxed until the dog went over to Mr. S and he petted the dog. Serenity was not happy that the dog was near HER MR. S. And then the dog had the audacity to drink HER WATER!! We laughed a lot at her reaction.

Dog

The poor cat, suffering the indignity of another animal licking it, instead of just licking itself. That is great of you offering your cat up, and good that you are getting more dogs in.
