Default Manchester Dog's Home Arson - At Least 53 Dogs Confirmed Dead

At least 53 dogs are confirmed to have died – and 150 more have been injured – after a suspected arson attack at Manchester Dogs’ Home.

Desperate staff and volunteers at the Harpurhey sanctuary, as well as members of the public, battled flames to rescue dozens of animals from the outbreak.

Police last night arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of deliberately sparking the blaze.

Nearly 30 firefighters battled the fire that engulfed the building in Mossbrook Road, after it broke out at 7.10pm yesterday.

Around a third of the complex is believed to have been gutted, with none of the 200 dogs inside left unharmed. Many of those that survived were suffering from smoke inhalation.

This is an older article chosen because it was closer to the event but the BBC are reporting 60 dogs have died.

The arsonist was a 15 year old boy. His identity was revealed on Twitter and he has been receiving death threats. There is also stories about how he'd been previously hospitalised after a dog attack, unsure if this is related.
