Icon81 25% of women die from abortions

Comment: I have been told that 1 out of 4 women who have abortions either
die during the abortion or from complications associated with the
abortion. True?

Wow. The title of the thread and the comment mean two very different things.

I'm not Roadie, but I noticed it too. The title doesn't say "25% of women who have abortions die. It says "25% of women die from abortions". The first is ludicrous enough the second is just outrageous.

the thread title is 25% of women die from abortions...so a quarter of women die regardless of their abortive status.

when the comment mentions that 25% of women seeking abortions die during or because of the abortion.

eta spanked by Sylvanz.

As Sylvans says, even that claim is ludicrous.

I wonder if the OP comment heard something based on including the other patient in an abortion - the nascent life. If you include the female abortees, maybe you get 1/4 of all female participants in abortions die.

According to the CDC less then .3 percent of abortions have complications that require any hospitalization at all, so yeah I thinking no. Out the estimated 785,000 abortions performed in 2008, they were 12 deaths.

Vending machines killed 13. So statistically the Coke machine in the lobby of the clinic is more dangerous then the abortion part of it.

If so they picked an incrediably passive aggressive and backhanded wording, regardless if one agrees with the sentiment or not.

Even if female, a fetus cannot be considered a woman by any stretch of the imagination.

This is a nitpick, but statistically it isn't true since there are far more vending machines and far more people interact with vending machines each year than those that have abortions.

Regardless, the number of deaths is insignificant.

Another point of reference is that there are about 18 pregnancy-related deaths of women for every 100,000 live births.

For anti-abortion folks, a female fetus seems to be far more worthy of consideration than an adult woman.

Woah, bad statistics aren't a substitute for lies! There are over 4 million vending machines in the US and they do more than 100 million transactions a year. Rocking the vending machine violently is what usually causes deaths so I'm guessing statistically speaking a vending machine that's used normally is many thousands of times safer than having just about any operation at all.

ETA - Oh, spanked. But a good thing I'm not the only one who noticed that.

Yea; because the adult woman already did the only thing she is worthy of in red state America. She incubated a baby, who cares if she dies in the process?

The numbers just might be accuate if you look at some backwater development country where it's illegal and health care doesn't exist.

Maybe this was true in the 1950's. It sounds like the kind thing my mother was telling me when I was a teen in the mid 60's. Not so much to scare me out of having one, but more to explain why she had 4 kids before she was 21.
