Fright Zinc pennies eat intestines

Comment: Our youngest daughter recently swallowed a penny. My
husband & I had both heard that "new" pennies (those since they changed in the 80's to
mostly zinc instead of mostly copper) no longer harmlessly pass through,
but eat a hole through the stomach and intestines. I searched your site,
but did not find this particular rumor. I contacted the local ER and spoke
with the physician there. He agreed he had also heard the rumor from
several other concerned parents over the years, but it was definitely NOT
true. About 2 days later the 1990's-mostly-zinc penny passed through
uneventfully and I'm happy to say our little girl has no holes in her
gastrointestinal system! Will you please contact your own medical
community sources & post this rumor -- with a status of "FALSE" -- so that
other parents don't panic?

I don't know how you can claim it's false when you admit that an ER doctor said he'd HEARD THE SAME RUMOR! From SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE, even!
